From the early 19th into almost the 21st century, the parish included a vibrant fishing community located at the villages of Dunseverick and at nearby Portmoon.
Carrowreagh was where the Browns, Meeks, and Curry families lived and fished from Portmoon.

Joseph Brown was the greatest oarsman of his generation and rowed ‘stroke’ in the racing Drontheim ‘The Arrow’, which gained legendary status around North Antrim following its great success at many local regatta’s.
The Portrush regatta of 1872, which paired the Arrow against the previously unbeaten ‘Inishowen’ from Donegal has been recorded in poem, song and book. The Arrow winning by the narrowest of margins after both crews raced to a ‘dead heat’ in the first encounter.
Joseph was father of Joseph junior, John and Leticia, who were all regular worshippers at Dunseverick Church.

Dunseverick village had quite a number of fishing families and fishing continued there until the late 1980’s when the last of the old fishermen retired.  Several generations of the McMullan, Wilkinson and McClelland families all lived and fished at Dunseverick.
