He was attending to a lady who had been injured when terrorist gunmen opened fire, hitting him in the back with tracer bullets.
His colleague returned fire as Constable Morrison was dragged to cover.
He was rushed to the South Tyrone Hospital where he died that evening from his wounds.

He was age 26 years and was buried at Dunseverick Parish Church on 11th February 1973.
His funeral was the largest ever seen in the North Antrim area. Canon J H Templeton officiated at the service.
